MS Dhoni smashed a quick fire half century to help the Chennai Super Kings seal a 38 run victory against the Mumbai Indians at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The victory for the defending Champions sets up a clash with the Delhi DareDevils on Friday night in Chennai for a place in the IPL final on Sunday against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Dhoni (51) smashed six fours and two sixes during an 20 ball innings which helped the Super Kings record an impressive total of 187-5 to leave the Indians facing a tricky run chase.
Despite losing Murali Vijay (1) and Suresh Raina (0) inside the first two over the Super Kings responded well thanks to Dhoni, Michael Hussey (49) and Subramaniam Badrinath (47).
Faced with a tough run chase, the Indians got off to a good start during the power play overs thanks to Sachin Tendulkar (11) and Dwayne Smith (38) who shared an opening stand of 47.
Once Tendulkar was needlessly run out at the end of the 5th over after a mix up with Smith, the Indians run chase started to falter as the Super Kings took control of the match.
Smith quickly followed Tendulkar back to the dugout and with wickets falling at regular intervals only Lasith Malinga (17) and Kieron Pollard (16) offered any resistant’s as the Indians IPL campaign ended in disappointment.
