The Durham Dynamos held their nerve to seal a two run victory against Yorkshire Carnegie in a tense match which went down to the ball at Headingly in Leeds.
Having posted a total of 142-6, the Dynamos kept the home side at bay despite a cameo of 21 from Azeem Rafiq (21) which included a six off the first ball of the last over which was bowled by Scott Borthwick (2-24)
The Dynamos victory was set up by Ben Stokes (36) who smashed five boundaries during a quick fire innings which was ended by Moin Ashraf (2-28) in the 13th over.
In the nights only other match the Lancashire Lightning sailed to a 11 run victory against the Leicestershire Foxes at Grace Road after the defending champions failed to chase down a total of 154-6.
The Foxes came up just short despite a quick fire 36 from Yasir Arafat who dispatched one boundary and two sixes during the closing stages of the match.
Stephen Moore (58) led the way for the Lightning thanks to a well deserved half century to help the visitors recover from the loss of two early wickets.
