Neil McKenzie scored a vital half century to help the Hampshire Royals seal the final place in the Friends Life t20 Finals Day thanks to a tense four wicket victory over the Nottinghamshire Outlaws at a packed Trent Bridge.

McKenzie smashed 79 runs to help the Royals win a thrilling match in the final over thanks to a boundary off the last ball of the innings to spark wild celebrations in the away team’s dug out to seal the final place in the Friends Life t20 Finals Day at the SWALEC Stadium next month.

Liam Dawson (30) and Dimitri Mascarenhas (19) offered McKenzie support as the Royals became the first away team in this year’s Quarter Finals to win despite putting the Outlaws into bat at Trent Bridge.

It proved to be a disappointing day for the Outlaws despite an all-round performance from Samit Patel who smashed 60 runs and picked up three wickets but it proved to be in vain as the Royals held their nerve in the final over.
