Jayawardene is full of praise for Mendis

Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene was full of praise for Ajantha Mendis after his record breaking bowling performance against Zimbabwe in their opening t20 World Cup group match.

Mendis picked up six wickets during a spell of bowling which saw him concede just eight runs and record two maidens to destroy any hopes Zimbabwe had of causing a shock.

"I am happy with the way Ajantha bowled. Even in the domestic tournament he came back and bowled really well. That was the indicator to see how match fit he was and how much control he had," said Jayawardene after the match.

"Ajantha was very keen to get back into the side and we saw that hunger in him. We wanted to make sure that he went through the processes and get his back sorted out, which is why we kept him away for this long," he added.
