A stumbling batting performance from the West Indies left their hope of reaching the semi finals hanging by a thread after they were restricted to a total of just 139 against New Zealand at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

Both sides come into the game needing to record a victory and hope England lose to Sri Lanka later on tonight but it was the Kiwis who took control of their own destiny thanks to an impressive bowling performances from Tim Southee (3-21) and Doug Bracewell (3-31)

Having won the toss Kiwis skipper Ross Taylor decided to but the West Indies into bat first and it proved to be the right decision after the early loss of Johnson Charles (8) and Andre Russell ()6.

The big hitting Chris Gayle (30) soon followed as did Marlon Samuel (24) as the Kiwis increased the pressure on the West Indies after they had slumped to 84-7 in the 11th over.

Darren Bravo (16), Darren Sammy (11) and Dinesh Ramdin (1) quickly followed and although Kieron Pollard (28) offered hope with his first meaningful contribution with the bat during the tournament the Kiwis will feel confident of chasing down victory.
