The Brisbane Heat upset the odds to seal a stunning 15 run victory over the Melbourne Renegades at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne to seal a place in Saturday’s Big Bash final thanks to a stunning century from Luke Pomersbach.
Pomersbach smashed 112 runs from just 70 deliveries, including fifteen boundaries and two sixes to knock the much fancied Renegades out of the tournament after they finished first in the group stages.
Having only reached the semis thanks to a victory over the Hobart Hurricanes in the final group match the Heat cruised to a mammoth total of 183-3 thanks to Pomersbach’s big hitting.
Faced with such a bog run chase the Renegades got off to a steady start thanks to Alex Hales (23) and Aaron Finch (20) who shared an opening stand of 35 before Hales was bowled by Ben Cutting (3-24) in the 4th over.
Finch and Alex Doolan (13) quicklly followed and even though Ben Rohrer (42) led the way with the bat the Renegades were unable to chase down the Heat’s total after they were restricted to a total of just 168-9.
The Heat, who also qualified for the t20 Champions League later this year thanks to the victory will play either the Perth Scorchers or Melbourne Stars in Saturdays final.
