Strauss misses out on England return

England opener Ed Joyce has kept his place in an unchanged line-up to face Sri Lanka in the crucial cricket World Cup Super Eight match today.

Many commentators had suggested that Andrew Strauss may oust Joyce from the starting XI after the Irish-born batsman misfired badly against his home country last time out.

Joyce made just one run in that match and has struggled with his form of late. Despite recording half-centuries against minnows Canada and Kenya, he also struggled against the quality bowling attack of New Zealand in England's opening match of the World Cup.

However, despite fears over Joyce's ability to rise to the challenge of the dangerous Sri Lankan pacemen Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga, the Middlesex man has retained his place ahead of his club-mate.

The rest of the team is unchanged, as is the Sri Lanka starting line-up after their comprehensive victory over hosts West Indies.

Michael Vaughan has won the toss and elected to field on a flat and shiny-looking pitch with early conditions likely to favour the bowlers.
