Voges dreams of Twenty20 Cup glory

Adam Voges hopes his performances for the Hampshire Hawks earn him a place in Australia's Twenty20 World Cup squad.

Voges was named as one of Cricket Australia's 25 contracted players last month and will make his Hawks debut at the Rose Bowl against the Kent Spitfires tonight after arriving from Western Australia on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old received the call from Hampshire manager Paul Terry, his coach as a teenager in Perth, on Saturday before leaving pre-season training with Western Australia to set off for Southampton.

Right-hander Voges has already played a one-day international for Australia and, with the squads for the Twenty20 World Cup in September yet to be named, he hopes a successful fortnight with the Hawks can help him secure involvement in South Africa.

He said: "That is a goal of mine and, if I can play well for Hampshire, it won't do my chances any harm."
