Key can’t wait for Twenty20 finals day

Kent skipper Rob Key says he believes next weekend’s Twenty20 Cup finals day could become one of the biggest in the history of the county.

Writing in his exclusive column for Kent on Sunday, Key said: “This coming Saturday will be a massive day in our season, and it could also be one of the biggest days in the history of Kent cricket.

“All I hope is that, after several weeks of intense frustration in the County Championship, the Twenty20 Cup will provide us with the success we have long sought, and worked for.

“We have a tough semi-final against Sussex to prepare for first, before we can even think about playing in the final itself during the evening, against either Lancashire or Gloucestershire, but we are in the mood to surprise a few people. One thing’s for sure, it will be entertaining.

“As captain, I am looking forward to the day hugely because I have really enjoyed the competition so far this season. It’s been great fun, and very rewarding too to see the team grow in confidence and self-belief in this format.

“I think the biggest reason for Kent’s success in the Twenty20 so far is our individual skill levels. The players have all very quickly learned what it takes, either as a batsman or a bowler, to be a match-winner in these games.”
