Sehwag backs the young guns

India batsman Virender Sehwag is backing India's young guns to shine at the ICC World Twenty20.

Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Yusuf Pathan will act as the elder statesmen in the squad for the tournament in South Africa after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly all ruled themselves out.

But despite the inexperience of the group, Sehwag believes the youngsters can do their country proud.

"We have a bunch of talented boys and the more the guys do well, the greater the pool of players we have," he said.

"Our fielding is not as bad as is being projected. We have some quality fielders in our ranks."

As well as being a chance for the young players to shine Sehwag, 28, is hoping to use the tournament as a stepping stone back into the Test side.

He has not played the longer format of the game for India since January, when a dip in from raised questions over his technique.

But Sehwag insists there is nothing wrong with his style and a lack of practice will not hold him back in South Africa.

"I don't think I require any change in my technique," he told the Times of India.

"I have been to South Africa before. I will play in the manner I have played until now.

"I wanted to play for a county but nobody seemed interested in taking me. I had talks with a few counties but they were more interested in fast bowlers than a batsman."
