Afrifi is key to Pakistan success

Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik believes Shahid Afridi's presence will give them a psychological edge when they face great rivals India in the ICC World Twenty20 on Friday.

A good start is key in Twenty20 cricket and Malik is adamant all-rounder Afridi can deliver from the top of the innings.

"For us, any game against India is very special," said Malik. "We do have an advantage in having a player like Afridi in our ranks because getting a good start will be important.

"Actually, anyone can be a trump card in this version of the game. If a bowler gets two wickets in an over, or if a batsman gets you 15 runs in an over, he could turn the game on its head.

"If the openers give a head start while batting, or if the bowlers do well in the first five-six overs, it can make a huge difference.

"It's like the 100 metres race. Getting a good start is very important. My team is working hard and they are keen to go out and give their best against India."

Expectations are even greater this time as both teams are looking to make amends after their disappointing exits in the first round of the World Cup earlier this year.

Pakistan open their Twenty20 campaign on Wednesday against Scotland in Durban while India take on Scotland at the same venue on Thursday.
