England wary of Aussie threat

England captain Paul Collingwood is well aware of the threat posed by an Australian side embarrassed by their defeat to Zimbabwe and needing victory to prevent an early exit from the ICC World Twenty20.

Wednesday's shock five-wicket defeat to Zimbabwe, who lost by 50 runs to England on Thursday, has left Australia teetering on the brink of an humiliating departure from the tournament.

"They're going to bounce back and try to bounce back hard and they're going to come at us hard," warned captain Collingwood.

"We know that as a dressing room but if we play the cricket we believe we can play we can hopefully beat them. We're not a bad Twenty20 side and we've got a good balance of players there and we're confident."

Defeat to England on Friday would seal Australia's fate but victory could take them through ahead of Zimbabwe on run-rate and a convincing triumph could even signal an early exit for Collingwood's side.

And the England skipper added: "I think you have to approach it as a normal game. If you start being defensive and thinking we mustn't get beaten by over 50 runs I think that's when you get into trouble.

"If we can go out there with a fearless attitude like we've talked about, we're going to make some big totals and it doesn't matter who we're playing against we've got a good chance of beating them."

Kevin Pietersen, man of the match in the victory over Zimbabwe after hitting a sparkling 79 off 37 balls, is also is fearful of the retribution they could receive if Australia get it right.

Pietersen said: "I think Australia looked a bit rusty (against Zimbabwe) but they have world class players in their team and it doesn't take them long to connect. I'm sure they will have been training and trying to sort a few things out and it doesn't take them long to turn things around because they're such a great side.

"It's going to be a tough game and we know that. Because we've played cricket for such a long time and haven't had a break whereas Australia's last game was in the World Cup it could give us the edge but you never under-estimate them because they could wallop us."
