Triumphant return for Pollock

Shaun Pollock made a triumphant return to the South African team as he sent three New Zealand batsmen packing and limited them to 129 for seven in the Standard Bank Pro20 international in Johannesburg on Friday.

Pollock claimed three for 29 in his four overs and his breakthroughs proved costly for the Kiwis as they posted a mediocre total on the traditionally batting-friendly Wanderers pitch.

Pollock was hooked for six by Brendon McCullum (9), but struck for the first time with the very next delivery as the wicketkeeper offered a catch for JP Duminy at point.

Jamie How (14) was dismissed by the same combination and New Zealand were all at sea on 84 for six when Pollock flummoxed Daniel Vettori (2) with his changes of pace. Scott Styris (30) and Kyle Mills (33 not out) then provided a measure of respectability for the Black Caps.

All the South African bowlers were impressive, with Albie Morkel taking two for 29 and Dale Steyn and Johan Botha each taking a wicket and conceding just 17 and 19 runs respectively in their four overs.

South Africa fielded first after winning the toss and sending New Zealand into bat on a sunny evening.

South Africa are relying on a host of all-rounders for their 11th Pro20 international, with Jacques Kallis, Shaun Pollock, Albie Morkel, Vernon Philander and Johan Botha all playing, the hosts fielding just three specialist batsmen and two specialist bowlers.

For New Zealand, batsmen Jamie How and Gareth Hopkins are on international twenty20 debut.
