Polly full of praise for Proteas

Shaun Pollock praised South Africa's team ethic after they beat West Indies by four wickets in Friday's Twenty20 international at the New Wanderers.

Pollock, who is retiring from international cricket after the upcoming one-day series between the two sides, earned the man-of-the-match award after guiding the Proteas home with 36 not out.

The 34-year-old shared an unbroken 57-run stand with Albie Morkel after South Africa had found themselves in trouble at 77-6.

"I managed to hit a few in the screws which is always nice," said Pollock.

"I thought Albie played well and the boys played well generally."

Captain Graeme Smith praised Pollock's contribution but felt his side need to raise their game for the opening one-day international at Centurion on Sunday.

"Shaun has finished many games for us and he did it beautifully tonight," said Smith.

"It was a good wicket to bowl on and I knew we just needed one good partnership.

"We need to get back to the basics in this format of the game.

"We'll have a good chat and a good workout tomorrow and get ready for Sunday."
