Volts fall just short in run chase
Nathan McCullum top-scored with an unbeaten 42 but could not guide State Otago Volts to victory against Canterbury Wizards in their State Twenty20 match at Dunedin’s University Oval.
The Wizards, led by Michael Papps’ 37, moved to 130 for nine batting first. Craig Cumming, Alex Gidman and Bradley Scott each took two wickets.
Cumming then made 32 as the Volts reply appeared on course for victory.
But after former Wizard Brendon McCullum fell for 22, regular wickets slowed the Otago momentum and despite his brother last-ditch attempt, the visitors held on for a two-run win.
