Bollywood stars go gaga over cricket

The bids for the Indian Premier League team have been announced with the Mumbai team getting the highest bid of $112 million.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh, whose movie Chak De India on Indian women hockey team was a runaway hit, got the Kolkata team bidding $75.09 million.

“I adore Sourav Ganguly and I hope he will lead the team. I will have experts to work out the modalities in the next 30 days. We will try to create a team that has a good winning combination. I will get experts to explain to us how the best combination can be done. I will not be a selector for the team," Shah Rukh told CNN-IBN after winning the bid.

“IPL has a good marriage with entertainment. The idea is to bring business and entertainment to the business of sports in order to promote sports. I have a huge passion for sports. We will try to do the same for football and hockey as well,” he added.

Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia, who won the bid for the Mohali team for $76 million, said they want to promote Indian cricket.

"All I want to say is that it is fantastic and a great opportunity and we won," an ecstatic Preity said.

Ness added: "We are very happy to have got a chance to promote Indian cricket. We hope all you ladies and gents come to the matches."

Chairman & Managing Director of Reliance Industries Ltd Mukesh Ambani won the Mumbai team while another business tycoon Vijay Mallya won the Bangalore team for $111.6 million.

"I was the under-bidder for Mumbai at $111.6. I won Bangalore at that amount," Mallya said.
