Wizards conclude campaign with win

A century stand between Johann Myburgh and Chris Harris set State Canterbury Wizards on track to a Twenty20 victory over State Northern Knights at QEII Park, Christchurch.

The pair put on an unbroken stand of 109 for the third wicket, before a batting collapse from the Knights made a home victory certain.

The Knights, fresh from two victories from their home double-header on Friday, elected to bowl first.

But Canterbury flourished, and other than the seventh over of their innings, which saw Daniel Vettori take two wickets, they produced a solid total.

After that slip, Myburgh posted 68 and Harris 48, both at faster than run-a-ball pace.

Vettori then scored 44, putting on a half-century opening stand with Andrew Strauss (27) as the Knights appeared in control.

But after the Blackcaps captain went with the score on 93, Canterbury took the ascendancy.

The Knights collapsed from 123 for four with four overs remaining to 139 all out, knocks from Peter McGlashan (26) and BJ Watling (15) the only other double-figure score.

The result put Canterbury level on 12 points with the Knights and the Stags who have one game to play - at the top of the table.

However, the Wizards will likely finish no higher than third, with the Knights currently holding on to the second place which would earn them a place in the final.
