Bransgrove 'disappointed' by Pothas decision

Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove said he is "disappointed" at Nic Pothas's decision to join the Indian Cricket League - without speaking to his county first.

The wicketkeeper has put his Hampshire future in jeopardy after signing a lucrative contract to play for the Delhi Giants.

Pothas had been the favourite to replace Shane Warne as Hampshire captain for the first four months of the new season.

However, his decision to join the rival competition to the Indian Premier League has put his county career in doubt.

Bransgrove said: "I'm obviously disappointed Nic chose to go and join the ICL without discussing it with us."

Unlike the IPL, the ICL is not sanctioned by the International Cricket Council.

advertisementThe lack of endorsement has led to national boards banning players that sign up for the league from domestic competition.

Pothas has in fact joined the same team as Shane Bond, who subsequently had his contract cancelled by New Zealand Cricket and who refused to issue the "no objection certificate" that would allow him to play for Hampshire.
