Kent pair in firing line over ICL

Kent's winter signings Justin Kemp and Azhar Mahmood have been caught in the middle of the dispute over the Indian Cricket League.

The pair are both signed up to appear in the league's upcoming Twenty20 competition which could disqualify them from playing for Kent next season.

Kent's chief executive Paul Millman told BBC Radio Kent: "They're caught in the firing line in this one.

"Hopefully pragmatism will prevail, but it might end in the courts."

The International Cricket Council has refused to sanction the ICL and has given its backing to the opposition Indian Premier League instead.

Mahmood has already appeared in the the ICL at the end of last year.

Millman says it is difficult to predict what the effect of the emerging Indian leagues will have on the game.

He said: "In a way it's good news because it's raising the profile of cricket, but the ripple effect is considerable and it's affecting county cricket right now."
