The mother of the young callgirl named in the Eliot Spitzer sex scandal has defended her daughter's actions, as the aspiring singer cashes in on her newfound notoriety.
The publicity surrounding the high-profile case has helped boost Ashley Alexandra Dupre's music career.
The song, What We Want has been picked up by the biggest radio station in New York, after the hooker posted it on her MySpace page and made it available to buy for 16 cents on the music site Amie Street - which prices tracks based on popularity, report
A second single, "Move ya Body," also selling for 98 cents, had also been added by Dupre.
Her mother, Carolyn Capalbo, 46, told the Times she was "shell-shocked" to learn her daughter was a sex escort who booked at about $US1,000 ($A1,075) an hour.
"She is a very bright girl who can handle someone like the governor," Capalbo was quoted as telling the paper, nevertheless adding that Dupre may not have realised her client was New York's top politician.
"But she also is a 22-year-old, not a 32-year-old or a 42-year-old, and she obviously got involved in something much larger than her."

It has also been revealed the disgraced Gov. Spitzer dropped up to $80,000 on sex with prostitutes, sources told the NY Post.
Spitzer, a millionaire, was hopping into bed with callgirls for as long as 10 years and traveled as far as Florida for call-girl trysts, sources said.
The prostitute-patronizing former prosecutor spent today huddled with top aides and lawyers in his Fifth Avenue apartment - trying to arrange a plea deal under which he'd resign his office but avoid prison time - as he desperately clung to power despite growing cries for his departure, even among fellow Democrats.
