Titans claim second Pro20 title

The Nashua Titans won their second title of the season when they beat the Nashua Dolphins by 18 runs in the Standard Bank Pro20 final in Durban on Friday.

The visitors, who also won the MTN domestic championship, scored 153 for six - the highest total made at Kingsmead in the competition this season - and dismissed the Dolphins for 135 in 19.1 overs

The Titans' total was kickstarted by a third-wicket stand of 60 off 37 balls that was shared by opener Gulam Bodi (45) and AB de Villiers (46).

The Dolphins struck back by dismissing Bodi and De Villiers ten balls apart. A sweeping Bodi was trapped in front by Morne van Vuuren in the 15th over before Jon Kent had De Villiers caught in the deep.

The Titans might have lost their way from there, but Albie Morkel steered them to their challenging total with an unbeaten 33 that he blasted off 17 balls with two fours and two sixes.

The brothers Morkel added a handy 30 for the unbroken seventh wicket, of which Morne scored seven not out.

Yusuf Abdullah bowled his four tidy overs unchanged with the new ball and took one for eight.

Ethy Mbhalati removed Imraan Khan (three) and Hashim Amla (four) in the second over, and Ahmed Amla (one) in the sixth as the Dolphins slumped to 36 for three.

Opener Grant Rowley (27) stood tall before being bowled by Morne Morkel, and when wicketkeeper De Villiers ran out Jon Kent (eight) the home side were teetering on 49 for five.

Pierre de Bruyn (29) and Daryn Smit (36) dragged them back into the game with a stand of 60.

But the Titans turned the tide conclusively when Faf du Plessis had Smit brilliantly caught on the midwicket boundary and Albie Morkel bowled De Bruyn.

Mbhalati took three for 18.
