Sehwag aims to keep simple gameplan
Delhi Daredevils captain Virender Sehwag, who has led the team to four consecutive wins after losing the first match, said they would try and keep their gameplan simple.
Speaking to mediapersons at the team's hotel here on the eve of their match against the Mumbai Indians, Sehwag said they would be sticking to their gameplan, which is conceding less runs in the first six overs and the batsmen giving a good start to the team to ease the pressure on the middle order.
He said planning too much does not pay in the Twenty20 version.
The Indian opener said ''The opening partnership is crucial and we are fortunate that Gautam (Gambhir) and me have been able to do that for the team. Both of us have been playing together for India, Delhi as well as our employers and we have good understanding of running between the wickets, which has helped us in this tournament.''
Praising his pace bowlers, Sehwag said in McGrath they have a legend, who is still as accurate as ever, and along with Mohd Asif they have been able to restrict the opposing top order with their bowling, which had proved crucial in their successful campaigns so for.
He agreed that the Mumbai Indians side was a good one and said if Sachin played, then they would just have to pray that he gets bowled soon.
''Other than Sachin, they also have Sanath Jayasuriya, Shaun Pollock, Robin Uthappa and Abhishek Nayar, who are all good players.
They have not had luck on their side so far, but are a dangerous side who can surprise any team,'' he remarked.
Speaking about the role of seniors, Sehwag said it was great to see McGrath work with young bowlers along with the great Dennis Lillee.
''You can see how much the young bowlers like Yo Mahesh and Pradeep Sangwan have benefitted,'' he said.
Sehwag also said sharing the same dressing room with other international cricketers has been a fantastic experience and they have developed some great relationships.
''It also helps like if a Pakistani batsman is batting against us, Shoaib Malik comes up and tells me which are his weak points.
This has made us get to know each other better,'' he added.
On the team not having any practice today, Sehwag said ''When you are playing back to back matches, it is not necessary you practice everyday as you are already in match mode. It is more important that you get enough rest so that you can be fresh for the match.''
