Gilly rules out semi finals for Chargers

Stand-in Deccan Chargers skipper Adam Gilchrist admits his team's chances of making the playoffs in the Indian Premier League are all but over.

The Chargers picked up their seventh loss of the tournament when they went down by 23 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday.

The result kept them in seventh place in the IPL standings with just four points from nine games.

Gilchrist says he hopes the team can turn their poor campaign around and have a major impact on the remaining games.

"I guess we are pretty much out of semi-finals and it is the reality. It is disappointing but we can't change anything," the former Australia wicketkeeper told IANS.

"We may have something exciting to know that we can still make some impact in the tournament. We have to see what other teams do, whether they get through and where are they going. We (have) got to sort out a few things for ourselves."

Knight Riders skipper Sourav Ganguly says his team can't afford to think about the semi-finals just yet. The Kolkata franchise is in fourth place with eight points.

"Before the last match, we lost four matches. So it was important for us to win and we are happy that we have won two last matches. Winning at Eden was important because it was our home ground but this game was very crucial because it was an away game and we had to win it," Ganguly said.

"We have to wait and see and keep playing every game so we can't think of a semi-final berth yet."
