Punjab post formidable total
A destructive second wicket partnership between Shaun Marsh and Luke Pomersbach has helped the Kings XI Punjab post a formidable total of 189/4 in their IPL match against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Marsh, who scored 81 off 56 balls, and Pomersbach, with 79 not out off 50 balls, put on 133 to guide their team to a decent position. Marsh, who struggled initially, was particularly impressive. His innings was based on good shots and he didnít need to resort to the unorthodox to garner his runs.
The powerfully built Pomersbach looked to be positive early on and probably overdid the aggression a touch. But he rode his luck and soon settled down to act as the perfect foil to Marsh.
The Mumbai bowlers bowled well at the start of the innings with only one boundary coming off the first three and a half overs. Shaun Pollock, in particular, was his usual miserly self and he ended the match with one for 14 off three overs. Inexplicably, Pollock failed to complete his ration of overs though.
Mumbai had included two spinners as they felt the pitch would suit them but when spin was introduced into the attack Marsh and Pomersbach began to play with more freedom and the run scoring soon picked up.
