Marsh leads the Kings XI to victory

The Kings XI Punjab cruised to a 6 wicket victory over the Deccan Chargers chasing down a total of 176 with relative ease to hand the Chargers their 10 defeat in the IPL.

Chasing 176 runs to win, Kings XI's openers got off to a flying start scoring fastest fifty of the tournament in the fourth over. Punjab opener, Shaun Marsh (60) continued his terrific form and scored his fifth fifty of the tournament.

Whereas, Marsh opening partner, Kumar Sangakkara (50) scored second fastest fifty off 23 balls before Chamara Silva caught him of Rohit Sharma's bowling in the 8th over.

Earlier, riding on a spirited opening by skipper Adam Gilchrist, Deccan Chargers posted a competitive 175 against Kings XI Punjab in their inconsequential Indian Premier League.

Gilchrist hit a 42-ball 50, aided by six boundaries and a huge six, and also paired up with South African Herschelle Gibbs to carve out an impressive partnership of 79 runs to lay a strong foundation for the Hyderabad team which lost only four wickets in their stipulated 20 overs.

Gibbs scored 44 off 34 balls, before spinner Gagandeep Singh bowled him out after Punjab captain Yuvraj Singh won the toss and put the Deccan Chargers in to bat.

After both the openers were back to the pavilion, the momentum of the Deccan's innings was maintained by Rohit Sharma, who came out with an impressive half century in just 27 deliveries, hitting out three boundaries and four sixes.

The Kings XI Punjab bowlers proved to be expensive. S Sreesanth and VRV Singh gave 29 and 40 runs respectively.

Besides, Sreesanth and Singh, Ramesh Power and Gagandeep Singh managed to get one wicket each, though they failed to put a stop on the speed of opponent's innings.

The match is of little importance to the two teams as Kings XI Punjab have already entered the semifinals while Deccan Chargers have failed to make the cut in the cash-rich Twenty20 cricket extravaganza.
