Steelbacks look to bounce back

They have done it before and must do it again.

One of the most recent sporting cliches bouncebackability becomes the Steelbacks' watchword after their third loss in the Twenty20 Cup.

A first win in six matches for the Worcestershire Royals denied Northamptonshire a quarter-final place last night.

And now they must once again show their ability to respond to defeat in a positive manner.

They know they have what it takes. An excellent win over Glamorgan at the County Ground on Sunday came after a humbling loss to Warwickshire and disappointing display at Glamorgan.

Now they need a repeat showing.

"We're experienced cricketers and we all know what we have to do," said head coach David Capel. We showed what we are capable of on Sunday and came back after two losses."

"Now we need to regroup and do it again. Missing the first chance does not put any added pressure on us. The pressure is there for us to win every game no matter what the situation."

"We might have had a chance to go through but that chance is still there. We've already beaten Somerset once and we know we can do it again."

Capel admitted there were certain aspects of his team's performance that were below par. But he also preferred to pay tribute to Worcestershire for the quality of their play.

He added: "We lost three early wickets and then three quick wickets in the middle. That sets you back.

"Then you have someone like Andrew Hall who has been absolutely outstanding for us so far but couldn't quite find his range with the ball. That's no criticism of him because he has won us games already.

"Sometimes you have to say well played to the other side. I thought (Steve) Moore batted very well and the two youngsters at the end were very impressive in the way they finished things off."

"They still needed something like 40 to win and they were up against bowlers who have good reputations for their death bowling. And they did it. I would almost like to look at it as they played well rather putting any criticism on our players."
