Glamorgan handed Quarter Final place

Glamorgan will play Durham in the Twenty20 Cup quarter final after the England and Wales Cricket Board heard Yorkshire’s appeal for fielding the ineligible player Azeem Rafiq.

Pakistan-born Rafiq played against Nottinghamshire last month but had not been registered for the first team and does not hold a UK passport.

After the original hearing last Thursday, Nottinghamshire, who lost to The Tykes by nine wickets, were reinstated, while Yorkshire were expelled - a punishment the county described as 'disproportionate to the offence.'

In an unexpected twist, Monday's appeals hearing in Taunton resolved to take the two points away from Nottinghamshire and deduct them from Yorkshire instead.

All of which means that Glamorgan, and not Nottinghamshire, go forward to the quarter final and will face Durham by virtue of a superior net run rate to Yorkshire.

The match between Glamorgan and Durham is expected to take place at The Riverside on July 21.
