Tasmania down Queensland in Hobart

Tasmania have beaten Queensland in their Twenty20 cricket match at a chilly Bellerive Oval.

Set 185 to win, the Bulls finished with 4-166, leaving six wickets in the dressing room on Thursday.

Queensland became mired after a strong start from openers James Hopes (58 off 38 balls) and Glen Batticciotto (38 off 33 balls).

They got bogged when the Tigers’ wily skipper Dan Marsh slowed the attack, introducing the spin of Jason Krejza (1-29), Xavier Doherty (2-24) and his own tricky darts (1-28).

The Tigers had scored at 9.2 runs to finish with 8-184 off their 20 overs.

Blazing half-centuries to opener Rhett Lockyear (52 off 28 balls) and George Bailey (52 of 34 balls) made the Bulls task difficult.

Queensland skipper Chris Simpson (3-28 off four overs) and Ryan Harris (3-27 off four overs) were the best of the Bulls bowlers.

Marsh won the toss and decided to bat first.

Tasmania are now 1-1 on the competition ladder and Queensland is 0-2.
