Daredevils rejoice Warner's T20 blitz
David Warner's sensational Australian debut has sent a wave of jubilation thousands of miles away in the Delhi Daredevils camp here with the Indian Premier League outfit convinced that it has pulled off a coup by netting the fiery youngster.
The 22-year-old New South Wales sensation blasted 89 off just 43 deliveries with seven fours and six sixes to set up Australia's 52-run win over South Africa in Melbourne on Sunday.
Former pacer and vice-president of GMR Sports, which runs the Delhi Daredevils, could not hide his glee at the sensational show by his latest recruit and gushed, "The moment I saw him at the Emerging Players tournament, I realised he was a huge potential for the future and particularly for Twenty20 format. Our coach, Greg Shipperd, also has a very high regard for David's talent and we quickly decided to get him into our side."
Uncapped Warner's singing up with Daredevils last month was among the first sign-ups for the second season of IPL. "His performances in the days leading up to his signing up with Delhi Daredevils vindicated our view of him and since then he has gone from strength to strength.
And now he has played for Australia in Twenty20 and could soon find a place in the national side in other formats," said Sekar.
