The Australian was instrumental in the victory, sharing a 60-run opening stand with Michael Lumb (21 off 13) which put the visitors well on their way to victory.

Chasing 162 for six the former Worcestershire batsman hit a six and eight fours in a 55-ball innings, with Craig Spearman (20), Mark Hardinges (19) and Mark Alleyne (17no) also contributing to victory.

South African Zander de Bruyn had earlier hammered 76 off 59 balls with three sixes and eight fours with Ben Smith making 36.

Essex coasted to a 43-run win over Sussex at Chelmsford in the South Division after the visitors were bowled out for 108 chasing their hosts’ 151 for five.

Former Zimbabwe international Grant Flower claimed three for 20 as only Chris Adams, with 44 off 41 deliveries, and Mark Davis (20) made any impression for the Sharks.

Andy Flower and Ryan ten Doeschate had shared a 62-run fifth-wicket stand for Essex earlier with the former hitting 59 off 48 balls and the South African 42no off 30.
