Kiwis aim to raise the bar against India

Dented by the Kiwis in their first T20 International match at Christchurch, Team India made the right noise here on match eve after their star batsman Yuvraj Singh announced that his team would avoid the six-hitting temptation in Wellington.

India would like to put the last performance behind and make a comeback-win in order to restore their supremacy as the true World Champion in the shortest version of the game.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s fury after the Christchurch defeat seemed to have gone down well with the team as Yuvraj said, “We did some mistakes. It is the start of the new tour and we have to understand the conditions and the wickets. So hopefully we will make fewer errors in the next game.”

Team India, which is on a 47-day tour of the island nation, will have to keep the spirits high against hostile weather condition if they nurse any chance to break the decades-long Kiwi jinx.

A victory in Wellington will be a booster before the five-match ODI series which starts on March 5th and heal the scars inflicted by the Kiwis. Team India would have to curb their basic instinct of power hitting, especially early on in the innings as it had proved fatal in their last match.

New Zealand, on the other hand, would be upbeat after their victory and would leave no stone unturned in holding their fort intact. Kiwis have some very good bowling all-rounders like Jacob Oram, Elliott, who are capable enough to turn any match on their day. Brendon McCullum, who played some breathtaking innings in the inaugural edition of the IPL, would be real worry for the men in blue.

Nonetheless, man to man marking of the two teams would definitely give India an outright advantage but uncertainty of the very sport that the two teams play is complete with examples that give scant respect to statistics and reputation.

With inconsistency being the only consistency in the 20-20 over phata-phat cricket, it would be interesting to see which team analyses the situation better and emerges victorious.

Indian fans would definitely be hoping that their team come out conqueror on Friday and celebrate their first triumph in their ‘new jersey’.
