Pakistan drops ICL players from squad
In a major u-turn, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday dropped three Indian Cricket League (ICL) players from a 30-man provisional squad for the World Twenty20 Championship.
The Board dropped ICL rebels Abdul Razzaq, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and Imran Nazir from the 30-man list and instead put them on standby for the June 5-21 spectacle in England. Test batsman Mohammad Hafeez, spinner Saeed Ajmal and Zulfiqar Jan were included in the provisional squad as replacement for the ICL cricketers.
A PCB media release said that the Board has sought approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC) on inclusion of three ICL players in the 30-man list.
"If ICC approves the inclusion of ICL players then these ICL players will be included in the squad," said a PCB spokesman.
It seems that the Board has taken the step in a bid to avoid a potential face-off with the ICC and the Indian cricket board (BCCI).
