Gilchrist blasts Chargers to stunning victory

Adam Gilchrist blasted one of the finest innings in any form of the game to lead the Deccan Chargers to a 6 wicket victory over a shell shocked Delhi Daredevils.

Deccan will now meet the winner of the match between Chennai Super Kings and Bangalore Royal Challengers on Sunday.

Gilchrist was adjudged the Man of the Match for smashing the fastest IPL 50 off 17 balls.

Andrew Symonds hit a six and 2 fours in his 15-ball 24 before he was caught by David Warner at long-on off Amit Mishra, while Tirumalsetti Suman (24) and Rohit Sharma (5) remained unbeaten.

Wielding his bat like a sledgehammer, Gilchrist achieved his 6th IPL 50 off just 17 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 8 fours.

Leading from the front, Gilchrist got on the rampage from the very first over smashing Dirk Nannes for five consecutive fours and later hit his Delhi counterpart Virender Sehwag for a four and three sixes off consecutive deliveries in an over.

Gilchrist's 85-run knock came off 35 balls and was studded with 5 sixes and 10 fours and he was dismissed on the last delivery before the strategic timeout caught by Nannes off Amit Mishra.

The Gilchrist show completely overshadowed Deccan losing Herschelle Gibbs (0) and Azhar Bilakhia (10).

Earlier, Ryan Harris took 3 wickets and RP Singh took 2 as only Tillakaratne Dilshan, captain Virender Sehwag and AB de Villiers registered double figures for Delhi.

Dilshan hit a six and 7 fours in his 65-run knock that came off 51 balls before he was run out on the penultimate ball of the innings.

Sehwag hit 5 fours in his 31-ball 39 before he was trapped plumb in front by Andrew Symonds.

RP Singh had de Villiers caught behind by Adam Gilchrist after the South African hit 2 sixes in his 21-ball 26.

Put in to bat first, Delhi got off to a disastrous start losing both their openers in the first over on consecutive deliveries without a run on the board.

Four dot balls by Harris got to Gautam Gambhir and he charged down the pitch, the bat face opened and the ball flied to third man where RP Singh took a simple catch.

On the very next delivery, David Warner cut to backward point for Herschelle Gibbs to take a simple catch.

But Sehwag and Dilshan led a stunning counter attack to send the Deccan bowlers on a leather hunt.

Sehwag started the counter attack as his first scoring shot was in the air over the covers.

While Sehwag dazzled one and all with an array of shots all around the ground, Dilshan matched his captain shot for shot.

Both Sehwag and Dilshan not only smashed boundaries but also exhibited superb running between the wickets.

As expected, Delhi have recalled Ashish Nehra in place of Aavishkar Salvi, while Deccan have brought in Harmeet Singh replacing Jaskaran Singh.
