Injuries remain big headache for India

The loss to New Zealand in the first warm-up game on Monday is not the only cause of worry for Team India. Injuries to key players is taking a toll on the best playing XI.

The shoulder injury that pace spearhead Zaheer Khan is carrying from the IPL will mean that he will have to sit out of the warm-up match against Pakistan on Wednesday.

And joining him on the bench will be opener Virender Sehwag who is also injured and missed Monday's match against New Zealand.

In fact, sources have told CNN-IBN that there is a fear that Sehwag and Zaheer may not be available for the first part of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma, who opened the batting against New Zealand, is among the replacements being considered for Sehwag as the opener.

"Viru and Zaheer Khan are not exactly sure if they will be fit before the next game or not, but we are expecting that they will be fit before the first game of the tournament," Indian skipper MS Dhoni told reporters after the first warm-up game.

He also said that considering Rohit's form, he should be batting upfront.

"I think we will go with Rohit Sharma (as opener). That was one of the reasons why we wanted him to bat up the order. We also have Yusuf Pathan who can (open the innings) and has done in so in domestic cricket in India.

"We have quite a few options and if we want we can try Ravindra Jadeja. But at this time, considering the form Rohit is in, he should bat upfront."
