Dragons claim consulation victory

Ben Wright and Tom Maynard guided Glamorgan to a six-wicket Twenty20 Cup victory over Gloucestershire.

Batting first at Bristol, the hosts closed on 148-7 thanks largely to David Brown's 56 and 44 from James Franklin.

The visitors slumped to 54-4 in reply, before Wright (55) and Maynard (49) combined for an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 97.

The Dragons got home with nine balls to spare to record only their second win of this season's competition.

Earlier, the home side did well to recover from a score of 27-2 at the end of the six overs of fielding restrictions where openers Hamish Marshall and Kadeer Ali had both fallen to Ryan Watkins.

Dean Cosker had Alex Gidman stumped off the first ball of the eighth over, before Brown and Franklin launched the rescue act, sharing 81 for the fourth wicket.

Franklin then trapped Gareth Rees lbw off the second ball of the Glamorgan reply, and when Mark Wallace, Jamie Dalrymple and Mike Powell followed cheaply the game was in the balance.

But Wright and Maynard then combined to condemn Gloucestershire to the wooden spoon in the Mid/West/Wales Division.
