Kallis leads from the front for Bangalore
Jacques Kallis played a brilliant knock of unbeaten 73 to help Bangalore Royal Challengers post a competitive 188/2 against their Group C encounter against Otago here on Monday.
Kallis played some orthodox cricket, hitting boundaries and over boundaries, but never slogged in his fine innings. He played with straight bat, an uncommon phenomenon in T20 cricket, all through his marvelous knock and remained undefeated till the end.
First, he gave good support to his more attacking opening partner Robin Uthappa, who made a whirlwind 46. And then put together an unbeaten 50-run stand with attacking Ross Taylor who came up with a destructive cameo of 32 off just 11 balls.
Taylor tonked two sixes and three fours to help RCB reach a 188, a score which was looked to be unachievable mid-way through RCB innings.
But once Uthappa got out, Kallis took the run-scoring job on his broad shoulders and along with Virat Kohli, put another 59-run stand to build a solid foundation for RCB to reach a total which can give them their first win in the tournament.
During his 59-ball knock Kallis slammed two min-blowing sixes and four fine fours.
At the outset, Robin Uthappa played a rollicking innings of 46. Most importantly, he forged a 75-run opening stand with Kallis before miscuing a Redmond delivery to short extra-cover.
But Kallis, along with rookie Virat Kohli, continued the attack to the opposition and together they helped their team cross hundred lend a solid platform for Taylor to come and take the score to close to 200.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first RCB openers- Jacques Kallis and Robin Uthappa helped their team a race to fifty in no time.
