Players Associations call for IPL window

Eager to keep their members involved in the Indian Premier League the players associations of South Africa and New Zealand have said they believe the IPL should be given its own window in an already busy cricketing calendar.

New Zealand's top cricketers will miss half of next years IPL and will only be allowed to join their IPL franchises once the test series against Australia in completed.

Heath Mills, CEO of New Zealand's Cricket Players' Association (NZCPA) wants a window created which would allow his members to earn as much money as possible by playing a full IPL season.

Mills believes such a window would stop test cricket being devalued. Its a view shared by Tony Irish, CEO of South African Cricketers' Association (SACA).

"There is a need for an IPL and Champions League window but then they must not expand outside this window."

"International cricket, IPL and Champions League must co-exist and not compete. Players should not be put in a position of having to choose between playing one or the other" he said.
