Smith partnership leads Blues to 178
The Victorian Bushrangers restricted the SpeedBlitz Blues big hitters limiting the defending KFC Big Bash champs to 178 at a cold and breezy MCG.
Blues captain Moises Henriques won the toss and elected to bat first looking to set the Bushrangers a large run chase later in the evening.
The Blues got off to a good start with David Warner and Phil Jaques, who was moved up the order to replace Phil Hughes who had gone off to join the Australia test squad, enjoying a partnership of 60.
Warner looked set for another big score but in Dwayne Bravo's first over he miss judged the speed of Bravo's second delivery and ballooned a catch to the wicketkeeper.
With the loss of Warner the Blues were unable to increase the run rate losing wickets at regular intervals until Steven Smith and Dwayne Smith met at the crease with the Blues 128-5.
The Smith's partnership of 45 lifted the Blues and they went off the field knowing a total of 178 should be defendable.
