UAE start campaign with 15 run victory
Arfan Haider helped the United Arab Emirates claim a 15 run victory over Kenya at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi to start their Twenty20 World Cup qualifier campaign with a win.
Haider whop opened the batting for the hosts smashed a quick fire 59 and was supported by the middle order pair of Saqib Ali (31) and Khurram Khan (28) as the UAE reached a very competitive 165/5 after winning the toss.
Kenya's run chase got of to the worst possible start losing opener David Obuya for just 2 at the end of the second over after he was caught by Qasim Zubair off the bowling of Qadar Nawaz.
Shadeep Silva struck twice removing Steve Tikolo (25) and Alex Obanda (13) to leave Kenya 49-3 but Maurice Ouma and Collins Obuya enjoyed a partnership of 69 to bring the Africans back into the game.
With the outcome finally balanced Ahmed Raza struck twice to remove Ouma (39) and then Rakep Patel (0) to seal the victory for the UAE.
