Irish bounce back with crushing 78 run victory
Ireland bounced back after yesterdays surprise defeat against Afghanistan crushing the United States by 78 runs to keep their hopes of a super fours place very much alive.
Chasing a victory target of 203 the US collapsed in spectacular fashion losing their first five wickets for just 11 runs in an amazing first three overs for the Irish.
Aditya Thyagarajan (72) and Orlando Baker (28) gallantly fought back combing for a partnership of 99 runs but the damage had already been done by Peter Connell who claimed 4 wickets conceding just 14 runs at the start of the innings.
Having won the toss Ireland decided to bat first and they got of to the best possible with William Porterfield and Naill O'Brien enjoying a partnership of 83 runs before Porterfield was caught by wicket keeper Carl Wright.
O'Brien continued hits blitz smashing 84 from 66 balls supported by Alex Cusack (46) as the Irish past 200 setting a the US a total of 203 for victory.
