Netherlands see off Afghans to claim victory
The Netherlands got of to the best possible start in the Super Fours of the Twenty20 World Cup qualifies by beating Afghanistan by 4 wickets in a thrilling match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Set a target of 129 for victory the Dutch claimed the win despite losing six wickets after an opening stand of 64 between Alexei Kervezee and Eric Szwarczynski.
The Netherlands had looked on course for an easy victory but the wickets of Kervezee and Szwarczynski caused a mini collapse which saw the Dutch fall from 64/0 to 113/5.
Ryan ten Doeschate's unbeaten 24 eased the building tension as he hit the winning runs that secured the victory for the Dutch.
Earlier having been put into bat by the Dutch the Afghans struggled with the bat unable to display the bat skill displayed in the group stages.
Raees Ahmadzai top scored with 23 to help the Afghans reach 128/9 from their 20 over.
