Shoulder injury forces Sehwag out of World Cup

A shoulder injury has forced Indian batsman Virender Sehwag out of this months Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies.

Sehwag has been advised to rest for four weeks after picking up the injury playing for the Delhi DareDevils during this months Indian Premier League. Although the 31 year old has played in all 14 of the DareDevils group games he has struggled to find any form scoring just 356 runs.

The BBCI have called up Murali Vijay to India’s 15 man World Cup Squad. Vijay, who plays for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL has been in fine form scoring 417 runs in this month’s tournament.

A similar injury forced Sehwag out of last years Twenty20 World Cup in England where India, the defending champions crashed out during the Super Eight stage.

With the Indian Premier League increasing it’s schedule to 94 games next year with the inclusion of two new franchises there will be calls for a cap on the number of games top internationals can play in a bid limit the amount of injuries picked up.
