India survive early scare to warp up victory
India survived an early scare against Zimbabwe to record a 6 wicket victory in the first of two Twenty20 Internationals at the Harare Sports Club.
Set a total of just 112 for victory India had been reduced to 48-4 inside 8 overs with Chris Mpofu sticking twice inside the first three overs before Virat Kohli (26) and Yusuf Pathan (37) shared a 5th wicket partnership of 64 to seal a less then impressive victory.
Having put the home side into bat after winning the toss; India made light work of Zimbabwe’s top order with only Chamu Chibhabha (40) offering any resistant’s.
Chibhabha came to the crease at the end of the first over after Hamilton Masakadza (1) was caught by Suresh Raina to give Vinay Kumar the early break through.
With wickets falling around him Chibhabha enjoyed a cameo innings which included 5 fours and a six before he was trapped LBW by Piyush Chawla in the 13th over.
Middle order batsman Craig Ervine added a valuable 30 runs but India will be confident of a morale boosting victory with a total of just 112 to chase.
Apart from Chibhabha and Ervine the Zimbabwe batsman offered very little with the bat with only Brendan Taylor (15) reaching double figures.
