The Surrey Lions boosted their chances of reaching the quarter finals of the Friends Provident t20 with a 15 run rain affected victory over the Kent Spitfires.

Chasing a total of 151 for victory the Spitfires were in all sorts of trouble having slumped to 81-5 when heavy rain started to fall in the 12th over at the Brit Oval.

With only Darren Stevens offering any resistantís the Spitfires trudge off the pitch having lost Martin van Jaarsveld (10), Robert Key (2), Sam Northeast (10) and Alex Blake (3) to leave the home side in fall control.

With a delay of over 60 minutes the umpires were forced to abandon the game.

Having been put into bat by the Spitfires the home side got off to a poor start losing openers Rory Hamilton-Brown (3) and Steve Davies (3) inside the first two overs after Stevens struck twice in the space of 3 balls.

Despite the poor start Andrew Symonds (62) and Stewart Walters (42) enjoyed a 5th wicket partnership of 95 to help the Lions reach a total of 150-7.
