Tait in Twenty20 comeback for Redbacks

Tearaway speedster Shaun Tait will return from shoulder surgery for South Australia's Twenty20 clash with Victoria at the St Kilda Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Tearaway speedster Shaun Tait will return from shoulder surgery for South Australia's Twenty20 clash with Victoria at the St Kilda Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Redbacks selectors believe that the Twenty20 playing conditions, which allow bowlers to send down no more than four overs, will enable Tait to ease his way back into domestic cricket.

"We also saw this as the perfect comeback path for Shaun, who has been bowling well and at full pace for about two weeks," chairman of selectors Paul Nobes said.

"With a maximum of four overs for the bowlers, these two matches are an ideal way for Shaun to ease back into top level cricket."

Selectors have also named wicketkeeper Graham Manou as captain and have promoted Mark Cosgrove, who earlier this season was under fire for being out of shape, to the vice-captaincy.

"The selectors have also seen this competition as an opportunity to share the leadership responsibilities and Graham has shown us in the past that he has what is required to lead the State side," Nobes said.

Hard-hitting rookie Ken Skewes gets his chance against the Bushrangers on Sunday, while former Test paceman Jason Gillespie will take Gary Putland's place in the team for the Redbacks' clash with Western Australia in Adelaide next Tuesday.

"This is a new form of the game and we're still unsure which players are going to be ideally suited to the fast-paced format. It might well be a younger man's game, so we have looked at a few new players for these two matches," Nobes said.

"This is a series we want to win but also see it as an opportunity for some new players to show us their talent. Ken Skewes is someone who is an aggressive batsman and coupled with his youth should be ideally suited to Twenty20 cricket."

Openers Greg Blewett and Matthew Elliott are still continuing their rehabilitation from injury and are a chance to return for the Redbacks' ING Cup clash with Tasmania on January 14.
