Lions hold to record vital victory

The Surrey Lions held on to record a 11 run victory over the Hampshire Royals to boost their chances of a place in the Friends Provident t20 quarter finals.

Set a total of 201 for victory the Royals got off to a great start thanks to Jimmy Adam (46) and James Vince (43) who built a second wicket partnership of 49 before Vince was dismissed by Rory Hamilton-Brown.

Adams soon followed and even though Neil McKenzine scored vital half century the Royals kept on losing wickets to fall short.

Steve Davies and Andrew Symonds both recorded impressive half centuries to give the Lions the advantage against the Royals at the Brit Oval.

Davis (60) and Symonds (63) played vital contributions for the Lions who reached 200-8 after losing Rory Hamilton-Brown (10), Jason Roy (12) and Younis Khan (21) cheaply as Sean Irvine (3-28) stared with the ball once again.

Although the Lions hold the advantage they will be concerned with the way a number of their batsman got out with Ervine picking up the key wickets of Hamilton-Brown and Younis Khan.
