Spitfires hold on to claim vital victory
The Kent Spitfires kept alive their faint hopes of reaching the Friends Provident t20 quarter finals after a 12 run victory over the Gloucestershire Gladiators.
The Spitfires, winners of the 2007 Twenty20 Cup picked up three wickets in the last two overs to deny the Gladiators victory despite a cameo innings of 26 from Jon Lewis who smashed 2 fours and 2 sixes late on in the visitorís innings.
Set a total of 166 the Gladiators were on course for victory thanks to James Franklin (40) and Harmish Marshall (17) but with only Lewis offering support the Spitfires held on to record a vital victory.
Having won the toss the Spitfires batted first with Martin van Jaarsveld top scoring with an impressive 40 ball 59 which put the home side on course for a big total before they suffered a dramatic collapse.
The home side lost 5 wickets in the space of 3 overs after reaching 146-4 at the start of the 16th over.
