Panthers miss out despite victory over Eagles

The Middlesex Panthers missed out on a place in the Friends Provident t20 quarter finals despite beating the Essex Eagles by 11 runs at the Country Ground in Chelmsford.

The Panthers went into the game knowing a victory; coupled with a defeat for the Hampshire Royals would secure their place in the knock out stages.

Although the Panthers claimed victory the Royals defeat of the Sussex Sharks down at the Rose Bowl denied the Panthers quarter finals spot.

Having batted first the Panthers reached 173-7 thanks to Gareth Berg (41) and Ben Scott (43) whose 5th wicket partnership added 57 runs to the Panthers total.

In reply the Eagles came up just short despite Scot Styris smashing 42 from just 30 balls as he looked to secure another memorable come from behind victory.
