Royals romp into quarter finals after victory

The Hampshire Royals secured their place in the Friends Provident t20 quarter finals thanks to a 45 run victory over the free falling Sussex Sharks.

The victory for the Royals confirms their place in the knock out stages by finishing 4th in the south group while the Sharks slumped to their 6th defeat in the last 7 games.

Having batted first the Royals reached 195-5 thanks to an impressive innings from Neil McKenzie who top scored with a fine innings of 67.

Michael Carberry (36) and Sean Irvine (32) added valuable runs for the home side which left the Sharks with an imposing run chase.

The visitors started off their run chase in good form with Luke Wright (26) and Matt Prior (10) enjoying an opening partnership of 34 before Wright was dismissed by Chris Wood in the 4th over.

With Wright gone the Sharks started to lose wickets at regular intervals and with no resistant’s coming from the middle order the Sharks slumped to a heavy defeat.
