Impressive Croft seals Lightning victory
The Lancashire Lightning held on to secure a 7 run victory over the Worcestershire Royals despite setting the home side a run chase of 199 at New Road.
Tom Smith (40) and Steven Croft (88) were yet again in the thick of the action; sharing a second wicket partnership of 81 before Smith was dismissed at the end of the 9th over with the score already up to 110-2.
Croft completed a 22 balls half century which included 7 fours and 3 sixes and he push on with support from Nathan McCullum (23) before his mammoth innings was ended by Shaaiq Choudhry in the 18th over.
Faced with such a big total the Royals threatened to ruin the Lightning’s afternoon thanks to Moeen Ali (72) and Daryl Mitchell (39) but the visitors held on to record the victory.
